This is Rudy. Trapped in his awful disgusting prison, with a stale bread stick thrown to him perhaps 3 times a week. Read more about his story:

Our group discovered Rudy last December. He had no shelter, no food and no water. He was desperate for attention and of course food. Thin and covered in ticks, this handsome Pointer was completely neglected. A group of people watched over him and fed him.

Some of the volunteers spoke with the farmer who had other dogs in equally appalling conditions, some chained but the others were fed once a day, in spite of their conditions. So why was poor Rudy not fed or cared for? According to the Farmer he was not his dog but belonged to his son who had moved away. We asked if we could save the dog and he shrugged his shoulders, commenting that he could tell his son the dog had died, or escaped.

By the time we lifted Rudy out of his prison, he was in much better health, having been fed daily and watered and had also had his ticks and fleas removed, eliminating the possibility of Erlichia caused by ticks and can be fatal if not treated.

One volunteer had ensured his safety and an eventual outcome would be a perfect home for this dog in Germany. Rudy was going to a local shelter and was being sponsored by a German Pointer society, where he would go and eventually be re- homed.

Many people had fallen in love with Rudy, his plight on Facebook had been publicised locally and so people were really happy at the outcome.

The day he was rescued, everyone was overjoyed. But it was short-lived. Upon being checked at the vet’s it was discovered he had a microchip. The vet’s obligation was to contact the owner. The owner wanted him back!!!

In spite of our please of his ill treatment and total neglect, the laws were on the side of the owner. We had brought Rudy into good health and we had no proof. Rudy is back in his terrible prison and we still hope to help him. The laws have to be changed, for this kind of treatment is unacceptable.

There are dogs like Rudy in every village, they are everywhere, chained and neglected… for what reason?
