*This sweet and beautifully illustrated children’s story, will hopefully be translated into Spanish to help with Spanish and Portuguese children’s awareness of the plight of abandoned animals*
Beardog’s Big Adventure is my first children’s book and is an endearing tale of friendship and belonging, about a lonely dog’s search for a loving home. The story is based in Portugal but could so easily be based anywhere in the world as abandoned dogs are such a common problem in many countries.
Although I had no plans to write a book, with a secretarial background and a love of typing, I found writing this book to be an immensely pleasurable experience which came naturally to me.
While on holiday in Portugal 2 ½ years ago I met a very sad lonely dog on the beach in a beautiful fishing village where I was staying. He caught my attention on several days as I observed him wandering around the beach and the town looking so dejected, his head often hanging down as he was turned away by people over and over again. I wasn’t sure if he was searching for attention or for food but he certainly looked lonely and I wondered if he had a home to go to or if anyone was taking care of him. Was he hungry or thirsty and where did he go at night, was he safe? He was still on my mind when I got back home to England and I felt that I needed to tell his story and so the tale of Beardog began. Was this story to have a happy ending? I imagined how my grandchildren would like the story of Beardog to unfold and I set about getting it illustrated and into print. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
