In the región of Murcia there are over 1,000 wells. There are of course many dangers of having these open wells but one horrific statistic, is that many owners who no longer want their dogs dispose of them by throwing them down these wells, some even micro-chipped and then they hope that these dogs won’t be found. However, this is the story of two lucky dogs who were recently able to be rescued from this horror, first there was Moli some months ago and now in a wonderful home in Holland.

This is Annie’s story

The wells are all over the region of Murcia and some are quite high and out of the way.  One day just a few weeks ago a Family was walking by when their son casually threw a stone into the well. They heard the distinct cry of an animal in distress. They told a neighbour a few days later and this was passed on to someone connected with Actin.

After discovering that the dog was still alive, a rescue was initiated but it wasn’t to be so easy. This well was particularly high and difficult to reach and the terrain meant the emergency services could not get their vehicle to reach. The attitude of the emergency services in using their resources for this kind of thing has really improved in this area, that is directly attributed to the awareness created by Actin members.  So, the fantastic Bomberos of Cartagena went into action and eventually got Annie the beautiful pointer to the surface and to safety.

Annie had probably been swimming around and around for at least 4 days to stay alive. It looks as though she had probably recently had puppies too and no one can know what happened to them.

Annie was traumatised and in shock but with the loving care of her Foster Mum Actin’s Vice President, she has begun to recover. Soon she will have her forever loving home and her cruel past forgotten, when she travels to her new adopted Mum in France.

A happy ending for these two but there are many we will never know about. Another cruel and despicable act that needs ACTION to STOP!!

Please donate to help Actin pay for Annie's vet's bills and to continue with our projects and actions, towards the welfare of animals. We cannot do it without you, thank you.
